Does your work fit who you are?

In our reintegration, outplacement and career counseling programs, we explore with employees what kind of work they want and can do, especially at the time when there is no longer a match with their current job. To find out, we ask employees what they find important in their work. Where do your ambitions lie and what are your possibilities? What have you always naturally enjoyed doing? What talents are you not currently using but do you have? And what activities and pursuits do you get energy from or exhaust?

Get to work on your position

To increase sustainable employability, it is good to reflect on the question: am I doing work that suits me and that makes me happy? This does not necessarily mean a change of job, but can also mean that you are much better placed with small adjustments in your work. Bee Puls we think it is important to think along with employees about this. In our 2nd track During our projects, we always keep in touch with Argo Advies, our partner in absenteeism, and together we look at the wishes and possibilities of an employee. As soon as these possibilities become more 1st track and the employee can further reintegrate with the current employer, we will apply the 2nd track trajectory accordingly.

Adapting or making changes in your work to stay somewhere healthy, enjoyable and for a longer period of time is also called job crafting. When "crafting" your job, you can think about increasing your development opportunities such as creating more autonomy and independence in your work, performing new or different tasks and taking on more challenging work where you can develop your talents. In addition, job crafting involves seeking social support in your work. You may seek support from colleagues and feedback from your supervisor or actively network within or outside the organization.

That's how we do it at Puls. We think it's important to look at the talents of our own employees. An example of this is one of our employees who, in her role as a reintegration consultant, discovered that she enjoys networking with employers. In consultation with the team, she has adapted her work in such a way that she is now involved in both guidance and building a network for Puls. In addition to her role as a reintegration consultant, she has taken on a role as a job finder, in which she makes contact with potential employers and looks for opportunities for the employees we supervise.

What does it deliver? / The value of job crafting

Several studies show that job crafting creates more engagement in your work. An engaged employee is completely absorbed in his work, shows commitment and performs his work energetically. It also appears that people who do job crafting experience and perceive that they are more employable and find another job more easily. By working on your job yourself, you ensure that your job becomes more fun, interesting and valuable.

What can the employer do? / Create a lasting match

For employers, it is important to encourage and provide space for their employees to "craft" their work. This can be done by providing feedback, helping them understand talents, offering development opportunities and challenging employees with varied work. So a good work-fit is valuable, where work connects to the individual person with his or her unique talents, abilities and desires. Thus, a sustainable fit contributes to employees being active, healthy and inspired at work for longer.
