Registered or certified: what's really the difference?

When you as an employer hire a Occupational Assessor for your employee, you want to make sure you are dealing with a professional Occupational Assessor . The Occupational Assessor may be registered and/or certified. But what does this mean and what is the difference?

By being listed in the register, Occupational Assessor subscribes to a number of rules of conduct, particularly ethical ones. For example, that client data are handled carefully and respectfully in daily work. Linked to this registration is a complaint regulation and even disciplinary law. Should you, as a client, find that Occupational Assessor does not act in accordance with the rules of conduct (these can be found on the SRA website), you can submit a complaint to the SRA about the register Occupational Assessor. By the way, this is only possible if the Occupational Assessor is registered there. The Occupational Assessor can register with the Stichting Register Arbeidsdeskundigen (SRA) immediately after obtaining the training and at the start as Occupational Assessor . Most labor experts are therefore register Occupational Assessor.

Certified SKO or DNV

A Occupational Assessor always deals with the triangle: people, work and income. The laws and regulations surrounding this are constantly changing. As Occupational Assessor , it is important to acquire and expand current knowledge. By certifying, the Occupational Assessor demonstrates that he or she is up to date with the latest professional knowledge. Certification can be done through two organizations: Hobèon SKO or DNV.

Current knowledge

For certification, Occupational Assessor requires a minimum of two years as Occupational Assessor before certification. Once certified, certification expires after four years. If sufficient PE (continuing education) points are obtained during these four years, he can recertify again. PE points the expert obtains, for example, by attending courses, workshops or other activities.

Peer review group (OT).

During this period, you must also join a so-called mutual evaluation group (OT group). During these meetings the Occupational Assessor discusses (example) cases according to a certain structure in order to sharpen your professional knowledge. The advantage is often that the OT groups consist of different labor experts working in different fields. Think of UWV, personal injury, self-employed or at an occupational health and safety service. In this way the knowledge is not limited to their own field of expertise. A report is made of these meetings, which also serves as proof of certification. This, in combination with the required PE points, is used to demonstrate that the professional knowledge is up to standard.

Quality

Finally, a requirement is that a certified Occupational Assessor also endorse the code of ethics from the SRA. Thus, a registered Occupational Assessor does not have to be certified to be on the register. Conversely, a certified Occupational Assessor must always also be registered Occupational Assessor . Does that affect the quality of service? Not necessarily, of course. Both certified and non-certified Occupational Assessor are trained for this, and the non-certified Occupational Assessor can of course also independently keep their professional knowledge up to date, have built up a lot of work experience and regularly spar with colleagues. Only then, this is not recorded in a certificate. The certificate serves to demonstrate that the knowledge of the Occupational Assessor is accurate. However, it is advisable to work with at least a registered Occupational Assessor , as this provides a certain standard of quality and complaint handling for you as an employer.
