Early IVA
Sometimes it is clear early on that your employee can no longer work at all, even in the future. Both own work and adapted work no longer seem feasible. In such a case, it is possible to apply for IVA benefits early.
You can apply for several benefits within the WIA. Normally, a WIA application is made after two years of illness. But with an early WIA application, you can claim IVA benefit (Income Insurance for Fully and Permanently Disabled Persons) earlier. However, an early WIA claim is only possible for IVA benefit, not for WGA benefit. For this reason, it is also referred to as early IVA benefit.
When can you apply for early WIA?
An early IVA benefit can be applied for from 3 weeks of the employee's illness. Does the UWV then decide that the employee will receive the benefit? Then it starts 10 weeks after the application. The employee can apply for early WIA benefit until the 68th week of illness. The benefit will then start after the 78th week. Does the employee apply for WIA benefit after the 68th week? Then the benefit only starts after 2 years of illness (104 weeks).
Please note that the employee may only submit an early application once! If this application is rejected, the employee cannot send in another early application afterwards. Not even if the health situation has worsened after the first application. Therefore, only apply for an early WIA benefit if the company doctor, occupational health and safety service or insurance doctor has advised this.
Who applies for the early WIA application?
The employee applies for the early IVA benefit. In fact, this benefit is part of the WIA, which is an employee's insurance.
