Two colleagues in conversation

We all know the rule by now: 'work from home as much as possible'. For the career and reintegration consultants of Puls Of course, this is not an exception. Colleagues Hilde Mul-Stahlie and Tim Koenen will talk to each other (via video link, of course) about their work in corona time and how they carry it out as well as possible, even in the current circumstances.

Tim (working as a career and reintegration consultant at Puls in the Arnhem/Nijmegen/North Limburg region):

"Still gets used to it, huh, so through a screen..."

Hilde (working as a career and reintegration consultant at Puls in the North-East region of the Netherlands):

"You can say that! I noticed anyway that as colleagues you speak to each other a little less than usual. I used to call many colleagues regularly to discuss a case together or just for fun. You do have more distance from each other now, literally and figuratively."

Tim:

"That sounds recognizable. It goes more quickly in the business direction. On the other hand, I also notice that the employees we support, especially now, are often extra happy with the guidance we provide. For them this time is even more difficult than for us. A big advantage of this period, as crazy as it sounds, is that we can help more people than usual. I normally regularly spend 2 or 3 hours a day in the car: now I can spend that time guiding and helping people."

Hilde:

"I also notice that I speak to the employees I supervise more often in between and briefly call them to see how things are going. Or how their first day at the new work experience place went. In this way, the contact is more intensive than before. I have therefore resolved to continue that extra contact even after the period with corona. I think that involvement is very important and fits well with the vision of Puls. What do you take away from this period?"

Tim:

"You have a very good point there, I also notice that there is now more room for a call in between. I try to make people aware of that as well. Are things not going so well, or are they doing very well? And do you want to talk about that? Call me! That's what we're here for. Thanks to our working method, employees are also getting used to contact by telephone or video calling at a distance in corona time. As a result, you notice that the threshold is less high for people to contact us. Very important indeed, especially from the point of view of Puls. I also notice that I work more purposefully during this period, which I really like. I think the people I supervise also benefit from this. I quickly try to clarify, and especially to make clear, what steps need to be taken and what this means for the employee. And I think enthusiasm and motivation are very important right now!"

Hilde:

"That positive attitude is very important indeed, especially now! I certainly don't feel that we can do our job any less well either. I have found my niche by now, I think. Although the question 'am I doing enough for someone' does haunt me from time to time. Especially since you often only speak to someone you are intensively supporting on the phone or on the screen of your laptop. I think that's recognizable to all of us, we like to take the extra step."

Tim:

"Certainly, I think we all want to make the best of it for the employees we supervise. Somehow I think it's also good to ask yourself that question from time to time: that's how we keep not only the employees we supervise, but also ourselves on our toes."
