What is the added value of a Occupational Assessor in an ERD file?

Employers who bear the deductible (ERD) for the WGA are responsible for the guidance of employees and pay the benefit. The Occupational Assessor from Puls can play an important role in claims management. But what is the added value of a Occupational Assessor? And what is an ERD file?

ERD file

ERD stands for own risk bearing. This means that an employer chooses to bear the risk for the payment and guidance of employees in case of sickness, disability or unemployment benefits. The advantage of bearing this risk is that the employer has more control over the outflow by supervising the employee himself. If the employer does not opt for this, the UWV is responsible for this. The UWV then passes on the benefits to employers in a differentiated premium.

WIA benefit forms

When applying for WIA benefits, the UWV assesses whether employee is eligible for WIA and for what form. The forms are:

  • WGA: A resumption benefit in which the employee has more than a slight chance of recovery and participation in the labor market. The own-risk carrier bears the claim burden of this benefit.
  • IVA: In case of permanent and complete disability. The employee has at most a very small chance of recovery. The claim burden of this form is not covered by the ERD.

The role of the Occupational Assessor at EDR

But how can a Occupational Assessor contribute to the EDR file? The Occupational Assessor draws up a report containing substantiated advice about the employee's employment opportunities and the actions that employer and employee can take to increase the possibilities, such as taking a course. In the event of no employment opportunities, the Occupational Assessor on the basis of the company doctor's prognosis whether this situation is sustainable. Employers who bear the risk themselves therefore regularly seek advice from the Occupational Assessor to have it assessed whether the employee still has the correct form of benefit. With the report as substantiation, the employer can then request a reassessment from the UWV.

Collaboration with Resolu

Good guidance of the (former) employees in the ERD ensures faster outflow and thus limits the cost of claims. Resolu is, just like Puls, part of paraDIGMA groep and takes over the guidance of (former) employees for many employers. They regularly ask for advice or a Occupational Assessor assessment. If, at most, there is a slight chance of recovery, Resolu will ask the UWV for a reassessment of the form of benefit on behalf of the employer.
