"I developed more self-confidence and regained my balance."

What happens when, after decades of working in care and supporting others, you need support yourself? It happened to Daniela. A psychologist, she worked for a long time as a care coordinator in youth and disability services until she dropped out.

Looking for what fits

Daniela is 52, but does not like to sit still: she loves singing, dancing and acting, is in a musical society and regularly visits music festivals with her husband. Daniela: "In my work, I like to have a fair amount of autonomy, latitude, creativity and be able to 'play' intuitively, so to speak, think just outside the box. I also want to be able to use both my analytical and emotional side while working."

Unfortunately, Daniela ended up in the Sickness Benefits Act and started looking for a job that suited her better. When she had been on sick leave for a year, she came into contact with Puls: "During the intensive counselling process at Puls, in which I developed more self-confidence and regained my balance through self-analysis, exploratory conversations, shadowing days at psychologists' practices and general practices such as POH-GGZ." After a bit of searching, Daniela found a vacancy that suited her perfectly. "Because of all the support, I was allowed to start as a student coach at a secondary school through a work experience program. This is a new position, which has been set up from the NPO funds (in response to the consequences of corona) to support students with a cognitive delay in regaining balance through social emotional guidance, so that they can learn again. Later, the process was converted into a temporary contract and hopefully it will become a permanent contract after that. If it doesn't work out, plan B is ready. That's a business plan for starting your own practice."

New start

With this new position, Daniela has found herself again. "This job gives me energy, strength, self-confidence and challenge. But perhaps one of the most important side effects is that my complaints, for which I was on sick leave for two years, have completely disappeared," says Daniela. A good match between work and employee can do a lot of good. She is also happy with the support from Puls: "Very personal, tailor-made, human, focused on the strengths of the employee. We look holistically at the whole person as an employee. The career and reintegration consultant from Puls has a lot of knowledge, thought in terms of possibilities and mediated between the old and new employer."
