For years Mirjam worked in a chain store; it was her first job. She started there as a sales associate and developed into a branch manager. Until it became apparent that the position no longer suited her. It was still uncertain whether Mirjam would eventually be able to return to her own job or whether she would have to look for another job with another employer. Thus 2nd track came around the corner, aimed at guidance to suitable work outside the organization.

Everyone has qualities

At the beginning of the process, Mirjam could name her qualities, but could not do so with full conviction. Therefore, we examined these qualities together by completing a personality test. Caring and being able to motivate others are qualities that fit Mirjam and qualities she likes to use in work. To be able to place where she can use these qualities, we used an interest test. This showed that Mirjam is interested in social care. While going through the test results, Mirjam realized that she does possess the qualities and that there are, after all, many jobs that would make her happy. "The consultant and the tests gave me substantiation as to why I find certain jobs interesting and could do them well."

Taking the reins into your own hands

Despite the results of the tests about qualities and interests, Mirjam did not yet know which way she could go with her experience in the store. Soon Mirjam started approaching her own network, this gave her many tips of interesting companies and vacancies. Mirjam talked to her network about how she would like to work in social care and would like to work at a care institution. Because Mirjam knows how to work, she got in touch with many people who brought her one step closer to her next job. "I think it's important to end up in a pleasant working environment, which is why I wanted to first intern at a care facility."

From daytime in the store to vigil at night!

To make sure that social care was for her, Mirjam spent a few days shadowing at a youth care facility. Mirjam eventually found her niche at that youth care facility and started working there as a night watchman. This is a very different profession than Mirjam has had so far in her career, so it takes some getting used to. "The quiet workplace and working at night suit me well."
