What do I really want?

Anne studied nutrition and health. Throughout her career, she initially focused on quality and policy. She had been working for the Occupational Health and Safety Service for two years when she decided to make the switch to Puls to make. Anne: "My role as Work and Health Advisor was very versatile. You have to deal with many parties such as the manager, HR department and, of course, the employee himself. At a certain point, I started to notice that I found the contact with the employee the most interesting. My focus changed from policy to personal contact and building a relationship with the employee. I wanted to be able to do more for the employee. In my role as Occupational Health Advisor, I had a lot to do with the label Puls And the way of working really appealed to me. The great thing about making a switch within the same group is that you already know what the working method and culture of an organization is. You can use this to your advantage.''

Enter the conversation

Anne was eager to find out what the options were. ''I first started the conversation with my supervisor. In an open conversation, I indicated what I was missing in my position as a consultant and what I was looking for. I think the moment you find that you are eager to take on a new challenge, that openness is very important. What I often hear is that people don't dare indicate to their manager what they are missing in their current position or that they want to take a new step in their career, for example. Often out of fear of a negative reaction. While I have noticed, also from my role as a consultant, that managers are often willing to think along with you. Openness in what you want is therefore very important. In this way you create support to think with you and together you can see if there are possibilities within the organization or if you have to look elsewhere.

It may also help to talk to a colleague who holds a position in a department that interests you. This way, you can already gauge whether it suits you. If you know what you are missing in your current position, you can go out and do some targeted research.

Exactly what I was looking for

And, Anne continues, ''That also definitely made me realize what I want to do next. I personally enjoy hearing people's stories and being able to offer them some perspective. That despite their situation, together we look at the possibilities. As a reintegration consultant you are really there for the employee. That is exactly what I was looking for in my work; that personal, more in-depth contact. I love to see that people can really flourish through a good conversation about the possibilities instead of limitations. For us that may seem small, but for others it has given them the insight they needed.
