Career counseling program

Fatima (35) has dreamed from an early age about leading her own team within a large childcare center. "People-centered leadership, that's the idea! Focused on emotions and feelings, and where everyone is stimulated and matters." But actually taking the step remains difficult for her. Various thoughts run through her head, 'What if it doesn't work out?' and 'Can I do that?'. So it remains a dream and Fatima doesn't take control. She discusses it with her husband Rachid (38) and he tells her to take matters into her own hands! After hesitating for a long time, she takes the plunge and goes to her manager to discuss her dream. Her supervisor advises Fatima to investigate whether it suits her and whether she wants to map out her ambitions. The uncertainty continues to gnaw at Fatima. Her supervisor suggests that Fatima be put in touch with a consultant from Puls. "How can they help me with that?" Fatima wonders.

Celebrating success

After a tentative first meeting, by listening quietly and giving personal attention, we see that Fatima gains more and more confidence. First we start by mapping out her talents and ambitions. We find out that she is very people-oriented, patient and helpful and that her ambition - to lead a team - really suits her. Then we pay attention to reflecting on her previous actions. This gives her insight that certain behaviors trigger certain actions. Fatima also indicates that her insecurity and indicating boundaries are her pitfalls. During a number of practical exercises we try to reduce these pitfalls by, for example, celebrating successes and steps taken. Has she helped a colleague well? If so, that success should be celebrated! Did Fatima bite off her tongue, take the lead in a meeting or clearly state what she expected from the other person? This success should also be celebrated! In this way she herself takes steps towards change. Her manager sees a completely different Fatima after these sessions. A year later, Fatima beams with pride. She has succeeded! She is now the manager of her own team!
